We have also been certified by the local FDA office in Oakland, CA. You can’t get any safer!

We use only one overseas facility to produce our enamelware – and this same facility has been producing our enamelware for over 40 years. Every container of enamelware is tested by an independent certified lab before leaving the premises. The test results become part of the shipping documents and are available for review.

The lab performing the tests is Bureau Veritas, a company founded in 1828 with the express purpose of providing inspection, audit, testing and other certification processes on products (such as our enamelware) with relation to regulatory standards. Bureau Veritas is now a global $3.6B entity with corporate offices in New York, Paris, London, Hong Kong and other major cities worldwide.

Our manufacturing facility in China strictly adheres to the standards set by the U.S. government, and we ensure this adherence by having all our goods tested. This means our enamelware is FULLY FUNCTIONAL and can be used to prepare, cook and store food safely.

Our enamelware is created by baking a porcelain enamel surface onto high quality steel. The edges of the items are either rolled or rimmed in stainless steel for extra durability. Each piece is hand-dipped multiple times – base coat and cover coats. For our traditional marbleized pattern, a second color is actually “flicked” on by an artisan using a specially designed brush. The marble pattern naturally varies from piece to piece — making each one a unique collectible.

Care & Use

When enamelware is produced, it is fired at 1700 F, so it is quite safe to use in the oven and on the stovetop. But do NOT use enamelware in the microwave oven.

It is best to avoid using abrasive materials on enamel surfaces. Don’t use abrasive cleansers or hard water stain removers on the surface. Remove stains and burned-on grease with a soap-filled plastic scouring pad or sponge.

Be careful when using sharp-edged metal utensils to keep from scratching your items.
Do not allow enamelware items to boil dry when using them on the stovetop as that may damage the enamel surface.
If enamelware is left empty on a hot burner or in a heated oven, switch off the heat and allow the items to cool slightly before adding liquid.

It is best to empty and dry the tea kettles and coffee pots after use to prevent any possibility of rust. If you do experience a little rusting, place 2 tablespoons of baking soda and a squeeze of lemon juice into the item. Add water and bring to a boil. Let cool and wash thoroughly before using.

Enamel on steel is hard and strong. But like all fine ceramic materials, enamelware will chip if dropped or handled too roughly. Chips affect appearance but not functionality. Items are still usable — there is no danger of lead or other materials leeching out of the items. The only drawback is that if not dried properly, you might see rust on pieces where chips have occurred. As a matter of fact, some manufacturers purposely distress enamelware to give it the look of antique pieces. Continued use of chipped pieces is an esthetic decision.

As with any dinnerware, some scratching and dulling of the surface is likely to occur over time.

Note: Not recommended for use in microwave. May get very hot or cold to the touch like other metallic-based cookware. Use oven mitt and/or trivet as appropriate. Enamel might chip if dropped, but steel core will not shatter and item remains safe to use. Steel oxidizes naturally as time passes. Do not clean with abrasive materials. Use of hard water stain removers may dull the shiny surface. Dry thoroughly after use/washing. Red splatter color may vary from a tomato red to a brick red. This is normal and adds to the uniqueness of each piece.
